Sat Oct 17, 2009, 2:06 PM by =PaulCarlton:iconPaulCarlton:
CALLING ALL HEATHENS, INFIDELS, SKEPTICS, ATHEISTS, AND HUMANISTS!
:iconbadassplz:

Welcome to the new Secular Humanism Club here on Deviant Art. I promise to keep up with this, as I see allot of clubs go by the way side here due to lack of updating (or care :giggle:).

First Things First-

I need a DevID! Is there a super awesome Deviant out there that will furnish this awesomeness of a club with an awesome DevID?

To Join -
Add us as a friend, add us to your club members on your journal (if you have one) and message and say hi! We'll add you to our watch. As time goes on I plan to start featuring artists of the club.

What to Expect
Expect articles and information on humanism and atheism, shows discussing humanism, and latest events! AND features showcasing deviants that share in the discourse of free thought and express it through written word and art! Stay tuned and become a club member!!

A Good Primer on Secular Humanism

WHAT IS SECULAR HUMANISM
Secular Humanism a stance grounded on philosophy and science.

Wiki
Secular humanism is a humanist philosophy that espouses reason, ethics, and justice, and specifically rejects the supernatural and the spiritual as the basis of moral reflection and decision-making. Like other types of humanism, secular humanism is a life stance that focuses on the way human beings can lead good, happy and functional lives.

The term "secular humanism" was coined in the 20th century, and was adopted by non-religious humanists in order to make a clear distinction from "religious humanism". Secular humanism is also called "scientific humanism". Biologist E. O. Wilson claimed it to be "the only worldview compatible with science's growing knowledge of the real world and the laws of nature".[1]

How I sum it up
1) You do not believe in the gods of religions.

2) You hold science and philosophy with the most weight in perceiving truth of the real world.

3) You do not believe in superstitions.

4) And this is the one life we've got and we should make the best of it.

Oooh.

DA is going to release groups soon, I think...? ( Assuming they haven't been released yet. I don't really know much about them. ) Do you know if they're going to allow old clubs to convert into them somehow? If not, are you planning to continue to run this club even when the groups are released?

Excellent idea regarding the "club", but I would recommend that you wait till the "Groups" come out on DA. So I'm going to decline your offer, but feel free to contact me if you start a Secular humanism group :)

Sports are predictable, art can surprise you.

Yeah I've been reading about that. I checked for humanism and humanism clubs (aside from the groups) here on deviant art and haven't found any so I'm pretty sure I'm the only one, which is why I started it. Once the groups roll out, I'll be trying to get first in line for a humanism group, and hopefully join leagues with other free thought groups as well (like the Atheist group, which I'm pretty sure will get started pretty fast once the groups roll out).
